Lumen is a project for (and by!) cis women, trans women, and nonbinary people. We are interested in personal essays, opinion pieces, memoirs, poetry, fiction, and interviews that examine how we move through the world, both as complex individuals and as members of larger communities. The conversations we are interested in are those that shed light on our stories—on our struggles, our triumphs, and all the in-betweens.

We aim to honor each other’s unique experiences and aesthetics by publishing work that recognizes the full range of important artistic and intellectual production by women. We acknowledge that we are all individuals with intersecting facets of identity, and that these identities shape our interactions with each other and with the world at large.

The deadline for submission to Issue 04 of Lumen Magazine is Friday, September 9, 2016. Please see our submission guidelines for more information on how to submit to Lumen Magazine.

Lumen is a project for (and by!) cis women, trans women, and nonbinary people. We welcome you to submit short pieces for the blog section of Lumen. These pieces could be about current cultural events, political opinions, a weird first date, some thoughts on a book you're reading, or a list of your recent Google searches.

Length suggestion: 500 words or so might be the sweet spot, but don't hesitate to go a bit longer or shorter if necessary. Say what you need to say.

We accept audio and visual submissions as well, and we take simultaneous submissions—but please notify us if your work has been accepted elsewhere before you hear from us. Please contact us at at with any questions.
